| Facts about Rzeszow - heritage The Summer Palace of the Lubomirski Family It has been the pride of Rzeszow since Saxon times. It was erected by Tylman of Gameren for Hieronim Augustyn Lubomirski at the end of the 17th century. The magnate had always cherished the dream of a palace in which the company of the Castle could rest. However, it was Karol Wiedemann, an architect from Saxony, who made the palace truly splendid. He completed its reconstruction in 1746. The Saxon also deserves credit for establishing a gorgeous garden near the palace. Another of the Rzeszow magnates, Jerzy Ignacy Lubomirski, used the palace as a wedding present for his two wifes - Maria of the Bielińscy Deunhoffowa, and the beautiful 14-year-old Joanna von Stein ZU Jettingen from Dresden. It is difficult to say whether the second young wife liked this present from her 50-year-old husband. The palace changed owners many times. In the 1920s the Grotowski Family rented a flat in the palace. It was here that Jerzy Grotowski, the famous theatre reformer, was born. In 1981-85, the small palace was adapted to house the Rzeszów branch of the Academy of Music in Kraków. The Summer Palace was erected by Tylman of Gameren at the end of the 17th century |
